Believe and Confess

“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour?’ But for this purpose I came to this hour”John 12:27

Jesus is the best example for us. He knew He was going to have to die on the cross for our sins. He could not ask God to spare Him because it was the very reason He came. He loved us more than Himself. So, He was obedient. He was surrendered to God to do God’s will.

A few verses later it says this, “Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they be put out of the synagogue, for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” – John 12:42-43. Jesus was obedient but these people were not.

It is possible to believe in Jesus but not be saved…did you know that? Even the demons believed in Jesus. But look what it says, you must “confess” Him as Lord and Savior. Jesus said, “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 10:33 These people believed that Jesus was the Messiah but because they were afraid of what others might think of them, they would not say it and they did not want anyone to know.

Do you know anyone like that? Are we like that sometimes? Our pride gets in the way maybe? We do not want to lose friends or have our buddies kick us out of our group of friends. The bible says, “what does it profit a man to gain the world but forfeit His soul?”

Paul wrote, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9. Jesus was willing to die for us openly even though we are sinners. We should be willing to live for Him openly if we believe in Him. We can believe in our hearts but we must confess with our mouths too. You may have taken the first step but have you confessed Him as Lord yet?
