“So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them and mocked them. Nevertheless some from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves…” – 2 Chronicles 30:10-11
In 2 Chronicles chapters 29 and 30, we see tremendous revival take place. We see God moving mightily in the hearts of the people under king Hezekiah. And in chapter 30:6-9, we see a glimpse of the “Great Commission” displayed to us in the Old Testament, amazing! In these verses messengers are sent out in all the land and the people were invited to come back to the Lord.
Even though there was tremendous revival, something interesting happened when the messengers were sent. Look at what it says in 2 Chronicles 30:10-11: “So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them and mocked them. Nevertheless some from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves…”
You see the point here? Even though there was revival in Jerusalem, the messengers were mocked and made fun of in the surrounding cities. But that did not stop those messengers from proclaiming what they were commanded to say. And as a result, “some” came and turned back to the Lord.
It is the same for us today. There is revival in our hearts as Christ followers, and we are given a message by God to go out and proclaim. We are to call back “those headed to the slaughter”. When we do, some look at us like we are crazy and they make fun of our zeal for the Lord. They think life is good right now and there is nothing else needed but they are forgetting to look ahead. They are burying their head in the sand and not thinking about what happens when they die. So, they make fun of us as messengers because they are blinded and do not understand because they have not accepted Christ as Savior.
That should not stop us as Christ followers though! We need to continue to share Jesus because although many will mock and continue to ignore Jesus in their lives, the bible tells us that SOME will come back! It is for those “some” that we continue to proclaim and invite. Today, will you tell someone about Christ? Will you invite them to come home to the Lord Jesus even if they mock you? May nothing stop us from fulfilling the mission He has sent us on!
