Fulfilling Prophecy

“Now it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes…”Nehemiah 2:1

This is one of the most important dates ever in the history of the world. It marked the day of Jesus’ Triumphal Entry. In Daniel 9:25, Daniel prophecies and says that from the time the command goes out to rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince will be 483 years (using the Babylonian calendar of 360 day years.) So here, in Nehemiah 2, the command is given March 445 B.C. and Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem was on April 6, 32 A.D., the exact day.

Remember the story in Matthew 21:11? Jesus sends two of the boys ahead to the village to get the donkey? On that day, Jesus fulfilled what was written in Zechariah 9:9 where it says He will come in riding on a donkey. Exactly 483 years (173,880 days), Jesus fulfilled the prophecy and the people that day knew what Jesus was proclaiming. He was saying, “I am the promised One…the Savior.”

The book of Daniel also goes on in 9:26 to proclaim that Messiah would be cut off. This is very important not to miss because the Jews at that time expected Jesus to save them from Roman oppression and set up His thrown. He did set up His thrown but not here, He set it up in heaven by dying on the cross. He was “cut off” by dying on the cross and they forgot about that part of the prophecy.

So, how do we know Jesus is the true Lord and Savior? Do we read anywhere in history where anyone else did what Jesus did on that exact date? No! Nobody else on that date rode in on a donkey and was willing to be crucified for the sins of the world in the days that followed.

It would stand to reason then that Revelation is true for future events. Jesus came once in peace but He is coming again in judgement. The bible says we are either for Him or against Him. Where do you stand today?
