“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference.” – Romans 3:21-22
Many thought the simple fact they were Jewish saved them and put them in right standing with God. Paul was arguing that the law does not save. The law only points us to our sin and that we have all failed, not just Gentiles, but Jews too. Paul was saying that everyone is a sinner in need of salvation.
The law is good when it is used to produce conviction of sin, but it is worthless as a savior from it. One commentator wrote, “we can use a mirror to see that our face is dirty, but the mirror is not designed to wash the dirty face.” Rules, regulations and works will never be able to save anyone from sin. It is faith in Jesus Christ that does!
Faith here is not a leap in the dark. The Bible says faith comes by hearing, and hearing from the word of God. Faith demands the surest evidence and that evidence is found in God’s word. And that evidence points us to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sin must be punished by God. The pardon, through Jesus, is for all but only becomes valid when accepted. That acceptance is evidenced by a life of obedience and surrender. What about us today? Do we have high talk and low walk? When was the last time we led anyone to Christ? Have we ever?
“If of Jesus Christ their only view, May be what they see of Him in you, (Insert your name) what do they see?”
