Do You Know The Promises?

“Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in affliction, for Your word has given me life.”  – Psalm 119:49-50

Can you pray this prayer today? Can you read these words and really understand what the writer is saying? I mean really, do you read this and think, ” man, he is so right!  I know exactly how he feels and what he is saying. I feel the same way.” Do these words here have any value to you?

This is a man who read his Bible and knew the promises God gave him. He looked to promises and not explanations. This is a man who found comfort in them when he was hurting. This is a man who wrote that God’s word is a lamp unto his feet and light unto his path. It is instruction for life and brings hope in trials. He said many times that God’s word revived him. He writes many times in Psalm 119 how he loved God’s word and how it restored him. If God’s word, the Bible, does all of this then why do the statistics show the vast majority of people who say they believe in Jesus never read it? Think about that for a moment.

Many times we, as Christian’s, sit back and think “Jesus loves me and He died on the cross for me.” Yes! Praise God for that truth, but that is not all there is in there for us! There is so much more in the Bible! So many more lands and frontiers to discover. So many more promises and instruction for us! How will we know if we never open it up?

How are you finding peace and instruction for your life if you just wake up in the morning and think, “Good morning God” and then go straight to your phone and look at Facebook and Instagram? Is that where you are getting instruction from? I say, yes! Many of us are looking at the lives of others on social media and saying, “look at their life, I want to do that.”

If you call yourself a Christ follower, the Bible says you need to follow Jesus daily. How do you follow Him daily if you never read about Him? How do you really know Him? Do you know where your Bible is right now? Will you pick it up today if you haven’t already?
