“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit:’ whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” – James 4:13-17
We know the things that we should not be doing that are sinful but the Bible tells us, as Christian’s, that if we know there are things we SHOULD be doing and do not do them, that is sin too!
King Saul, the first king over Israel, when he was being announced as king to the people, could not be found. Nobody knew where he was. But then God said, “I know where he is, he is hiding behind the equipment.” (1 Samuel 10) God always knows where we are, there is no hiding. As a Christ follower, He will call you to something.
We all have a calling on our lives that God wants to use us in to glorify His name. But, many times we think our own plans are best and we say “I’m going to do this or that” when God is asked us to do something completely different. Jesus got into Peter’s boat and said to Peter, “Launch away from the shore.” Peter obeyed and left a booming fishing business to begin ministry. That is true obedience, isn’t it?
Has God been speaking to you about His will for you recently? If so, will you hide like Saul or launch out like Peter? Take a step of faith and see what God does! He will be there to catch you if you fall!
