“The whole land is made desolate, because no one takes it to heart.” – Jeremiah 12:11
Through Jeremiah, God is speaking to Judah that the many rulers they had destroyed His people and His plans for their lives. The kings, priests and all the leaders were fighting for power while the people and the land suffered. They did not care for the people, even though they pretended they did. The people were just used by them in-order for those in power to get their way. You can see these accusations against them in chapter twenty-two of Jeremiah.
Proverbs 28:2 says, “A land in rebellion has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.” A land in rebellion has many people in power or vying for power. That is how you know the heart of a nation has turned away from their Maker. They no longer have one mind and heart. They have become a divided nation with many opinions and plans of their own.
I do not know about you but since I was old enough to remember, politics in our nation have always been volatile and they seem to be getting worse. It does not matter who is in office, Democrat or Republican, there is always turmoil and very rarely is there anything resolved. Today, as the race for the White House begins to move forward, we see many throwing their hats into the ring. It would seem that our nation today is much like Israel in the days of Jeremiah. We have many “rulers” and people vying for power and we are a divided nation.
In Jeremiah’s day nobody was taking it to heart or taking things seriously. The real problem was not which party was better for the country, it was a spiritual problem. Everyone’s heart was turned from God. It is very possible we are seeing the same today. We do not need the country to have more Democrat’s or Republican’s, we need more people to turn back to their Maker. We need heart change.
Back in Proverbs 28:2, it tells us that a person of understanding and knowledge maintains order. It is not telling us that this is a person who has a Doctorate in economics, who is a military strategist or is a career politician. A person of understanding and knowledge is the person who knows that God is in control (Prov. 1:7). It is a person who knows the Lord.
What about us today? The only way our nation will be blessed is if we acknowledge God as our Maker and our Redeemer (2 Chronicles 7:14). Revival begins with a heart change in each one of us individually. A heart change can only happen if you accept Jesus the Messiah as your personal Lord and Savior. Make that decision today and receive mercy and grace and redemption of sins. Then and only then will you see revival of a Godly nation!
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16
