“Is My Soul Too Stained?”

Devotional

“Thus says the Lord God: ‘On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt.'”Ezekiel 36:33

I can recall many times throughout the years where I have felt that I needed to clean up my life first before I could go to church and before I could even approach Jesus. I have heard many people say the same thing. We do not feel good enough to even approach God and wonder if He will even accept us. Unfortunately, it is this way of thinking that causes most people to say, “as soon as I make some changes, then I will accept Jesus. Right now, I am just not ready to give things up.”

If this describes you or someone you know, re-read the scripture above. God says when HE cleanses you and HE causes you to live and HE rebuilds. Where, in this scripture or in the rest of the Bible does it tell us we have to clean up our life first?

We forget that Jesus reached out to prostitutes, corrupt business men, alcoholics, adulterers and fornicators. Jesus even touched dead people, which was unheard of for a Jew, and even preached and healed in a cemetery. And in all those cases, did He ever tell them, “Your soul is too stained! Clean up your life first before you approach Me!” No! He came to each one and got into the trenches with them and simply demonstrated His love for them.

Think of it this way. When there is an emergency and Paramedics are called in, do they call dispatch and ask what the scene looks like? Do they ask for blood and debris to be cleaned up before they go in to rescue? Of course not! They go in regardless because there is a person in need. The cleanup will happen later. Preserving life is the priority of the moment. It is the same with Jesus. Whatever circumstance you are in, if He is called to the scene He does not worry about the surroundings, He is concerned about giving and preserving life.

Today, there is no need to clean up the scene in your life first. Accept Jesus right where you are at. He will do the rest.

“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”God (Ezekiel 36:25-27)
