When Will I Learn My Lesson?

“But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.”Daniel 5:22

Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall for Belshazzar, judgment was here, and it was too late for him to repent. Belshazzar had opportunities to repent yet he never took them. Daniel even reminded him that the things Belshazzar has seen happen to his father should have been an example. But, Belshazzar was too prideful, and he did not want to give up his current lifestyle.

In the book of Amos, in chapter 3, we see the authority of this prophet’s message from God. Amos was a humble farmer but called into ministry by God and given a powerful message to deliver. One of the statements Amos makes is found in chapter 3. Amos writes, “Surely the Lord God does nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7) God was speaking in advance of judgment, but the people were not listening, and judgment came. It was too late for them.

Just as in Amos’ time and in Daniels time people today are still not listening. Belshazzar had a live example in his father of God’s grace and judgment yet he did not learn and turned away from God. The people in Amos’ time had prophets speaking about God’s judgment, yet they turned away from God. Today, we have the entire Bible, all 66 books that give us the whole picture of what has happened in the past and what will happen in the future. Yet, we are still not saved.

God has a way of getting our attention. Does He have yours? If not, what is it going to take to get it? Will He ever get it or will you turn away like the others here?

Belshazzar knew the truth and had examples before him. And, it tells us he knew what was right and wrong yet he chose his own way anyway. Today you and I still have a chance to accept Jesus as Savior. You may have tried everything else and are still empty. It is time to listen!

“The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved!” – Jeremiah 8:20
