“…And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.”Matthew 10:29
The Lord Jesus is explaining that God the Father is not only the Father over the big things, But He is also the God over the smallest things in the world and in our lives. The things we may consider as unimportant, like how many hairs that are on our head, He knows, and He has counted them!
Nothing in our lives happens without His knowledge and without his permission. Even the sparrow does not fall if it is not allowed by Him. The sovereignty of the Lord should bring peace to the soul, not fear.
The Bible tells the disciple to, “count it all joy” when we fall into the various trials of life (James 1:2-8). Many times trials are caused by outside sources beyond our control. We find ourselves in a situation and may even wonder why and ask, “where are you, God?”
Consider Joseph’s life in the Book of Genesis. Due to jealousy, he was dumped into a dark pit and then sold into slavery by his own brothers. I am unsure if Joseph counted this as joy, but we have been given the entire story and know that at the end of Joseph’s life, he is restored to his family and is a ruler in the land of Egypt. Through God’s sovereignty, Joseph’s life was used by God to save many.
Many of us find ourselves in stressful situations. Nobody but the Lord knows why they are allowed into our lives as disciples of Christ. What we do know is that He is in control. What we do know is that He is not finished with us yet, and the outcome is going to lead us to a place where His name will be glorified, and we will be at perfect peace. He takes care of the things we think are insignificant, like a sparrow. And He says, “Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” You are made in His image, and in His image may you remain.
“But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.”Psalm 40:17
