Do We Know Jesus Or Just Know Of Him?

”For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed…”

Matthew 13:15

Jesus said, “Not everyone who calls Me ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of My Father in heaven’ (Matt.7:21). Well, then what is the Father’s will for us? God said of Jesus, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” (Matt. 17:5). If I am to listen to Jesus, what did He say? Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:8). Jesus said, “The Father and I are one” (John 10:30). Jesus said, “If you love Me, obey Me” (John 14:15).

God said to listen to Jesus, and Jesus said He is the Messiah. He said He is God and the only Savior and it is only belief in Him and confession of that belief that saves and that if anyone loves Him, they will do what He commands. That is the “fruit” of your life that demonstrates the salvation within. ANYTHING contrary to this teaching is false and the spirit of Antichrist, so says the Bible.

We cannot claim to know Jesus and then live however we feel, that would prove we do not love Him because we are not obedient. We cannot claim to know Jesus, and at the same time, think we can do good works to earn it. The Bible tells us salvation is a free gift. We cannot claim to know Jesus and think He is simply a great prophet. If that is the case, then Jesus lied. He said He is Messiah, not just a great prophet. We cannot claim to know Jesus and pray to anything or anyone else for help. If we believe that, we make Jesus a liar because He said He is the only way and that there is no other mediator between God and man.

In the U.S. today, many claim they know Jesus. Actions would claim otherwise and seem to prove we only know of Him. If we truly knew Him, the world would be so much different. The wrong understanding of the Christ will always lead us down the wrong way of life. Do we really know Jesus or just know of Him? May we truly come to know Him as Lord and Savior, repent of our sins, accept Him into our hearts and fulfill His will for our lives. Then, and only then, will our nation and the world be changed!

“It is possible for people to be enlightened to the point of knowing inwardly that Jesus is the divine Savior he claims to be, and still not be willing to admit it publicly…”

J.I. Packer
