“And God said to Moses, I AM…”Exodus 3:14

The Great I Am is Jehovah or Yahweh, from the Hebrew verb “to be.” This is the proper name of the God of Israel. He is the self-existent One who always was, is and always will be. That is the One speaking to Moses from the burning bush. He was sending Moses on a mission and the authority he had to accomplish this mission was sealed by Jehovah Himself.

Jehovah is a sacred name that comes from the Hebrew YHWH (the Tetragrammaton or “four letters”). The Jews consider YHWH too sacred to utter as it proclaims God as self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, and sovereign. And rightly so, for He is all of these things. Jehovah is sacred to us, and we must value Him highly.

Jesus means “Yahweh saves,” and Jesus Christ certainly did come to save, as the Bible declares. But, Jesus is not merely the Son of God, as some would suppose and preach. He is not a created being as some religions teach. And, He is not just an example to us of being in perfect obedience to the Father, which provides us with the “prospect” of going to heaven. All this does is tell us we can earn our way to heaven if we are good enough. No, Jesus is Jehovah, and He said so Himself!

Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). When He said this, He was clearly referring back to Exodus 3. Jesus Himself claimed to be Messiah and was written in the authorized canon of scripture. Anything other than that is just merely false doctrine.

It is incredible when religion uses the original canon of scripture to prove what they believe and yet leave things out showing Jesus and His Deity. Know the Word and understand what you believe. Know Jesus and who He actually claimed to be and who He really is…The Great I AM!
