The Author’s Love For You

Devotional II

“See, I have told you beforehand.”

– Matthew 24:28

The true Christ-follower can never say, “I didn’t know.” That is a contradiction in terms. Jesus very clearly said, He told us beforehand. Everything we need to know He has written down for us. In a recent interview, NFL star Heath Evans said, “most people read a book, and they fall in love with the author. The Bible is the only book where the Author is in love with the reader.” I have rarely heard a more accurate statement!

We have a love letter written to us with promises and warnings. Yet, how few of us ever read through the entire message. When we take bits and pieces out of context, we are left with an incomplete view of the Lord’s love and guidance. We cannot complete the picture, put the pieces together in perfect harmony, and keep an accurate view. The only way another love can creep in and steal us away from Christ is if we did not read and believe in what Jesus has said. We may think there is a promise missing that left us empty, so we look for fulfillment elsewhere. It is not a promise missing, but a promise never read.

Jesus was instructing the disciples on how to understand the signs of the times. Many deceivers would come in His name. Many would come claiming they are Him. There would be wars and rumors of wars and earthquakes in places we never would have expected. Not only that, hatred and division would be escalated, and the love of many would grow cold. Any of these events happening today?

Regarding Satan and the church A.W.Tozer said it best when he wrote, “By means of false teaching or inadequate teaching, or the huge discouragement that comes from the example of a decadent church, he has succeeded in weakening their resolution, neutralizing their convictions and taming their original urge to do exploits; now they are little more than statistics that contribute financially to the upkeep of the religious institution.” In other words, there is very little power in the church today!

There will be no excuse for not knowing because Jesus told us beforehand. Christian, if that is what you call yourself, today, you need to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!

“There can be complete victory for us if we will but take the way of the triumphant Christ, but too many have accepted the low-keyed Christian life as the normal one. That is all Satan wants. That will ground our power, stunt our growth, and render us harmless to the kingdom of darkness – and we sons of eternity just cannot afford such a thing!”

– A. W. Tozer
