“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”
– Psalm 94:19
When I think about my favorite verse in the Bible, the answer is straightforward. The answer is…it varies from day-to-day. My favorite verse in the Bible is the one I happen to be studying the day this question is asked. The Bible tells us the Word of God is “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12). As such, the Lord speaks through His Word, and what I am reading on any particular day is precisely the daily spiritual resource that I needed. Is that how it is for you?
All of God’s words are inspired by Him and speak to us daily. However, there are those Holy Spirit inspired words in the Bible that bring us back to the center. They are those scriptures we fly to quickly in times of urgent need. These are the words of our Lord that bring us comfort when our anxieties accumulate in our minds. What words of our Lord are those for you? Do you have any?
For me personally, I run back very often to 2 Chronicles 20:15-17. You see, Satan, the adversary, the hater of my soul who wants me to fail miserably, the one who came to kill, to steal, and to destroy, wants me to be discouraged. He wants me to worry about life, finances, work, what others have, and I do not have. He wants to steal my joy and get my attention off of the plan God has for me. If he can do that, then the power of the Lord through His Holy Spirit cannot move in and through my life freely.
I often refer to the scripture mentioned because it is the prophecy the Holy Ghost gave to me when He called me into ministry. I remember the day, where I was, and what I was doing. It is like a memory that you have captured in your mind, and when thought about, you remember the sounds, sights, and aromas of that particular day. The actual memory seems to come back to life for a moment, and once more, your heart is stirred!
Christian, if that is what you call yourself, do you have any of the precious words of the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart like that? You should! If you do, maybe today is the day the Lord wants you to recall them to mind and stir up your heart for His service. It is time to get back into the fight!
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
– 2 Timothy 1:6
