“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
– Mark 11:24
How often the Lord’s church misinterprets this scripture, especially in today’s society. It is the inaccurate instruction today that propels some pastors to over-emphasize and teach incessantly about money, possessions, and position. Many do not even know how to manage their own households well, which leads them to this bent in sermons because more money is needed.
Unfortunately, giving to the Lord has become a burden in many circles, and guilt is very often cloaked in the words “partner with us.” It is crucial, therefore, to know the entire Bible. It is then you can marry this verse with, “You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it on your lusts” (James 4:3) and “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us: And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him” (1 John 5:14). That is the key then, asking according to His will, the very thing that is not emphasized enough.
We may have spent years praying for things that God does not want us to have. Pray and seek His will today, it is then you will have what you ask for. It is then that His plan will be fulfilled!
